I wandered a bit outside of the central to see the sprawling suburbs stretch out in every direction.  The air here was polluted, the traffic was dense and noisy, and other than the main buildings, everything was run-down and dirty.  This is how most of Lima was, with Miraflores and the other modern areas being the exceptions.  On the other hand, it does have a certain charm.
