We spent the night in the village, and the next morning had a bit of a panicked scramble to purchase all the correct documents we needed.  I wanted to get there early so we could climb Waynu Picchu, an adjacent mountain overlooking Machu Picchu.  Only the first couple hundred of visitors are allowed up.  We finally managed to take the bus trip up to the site, and I rushed through the misty ruins to secure our place in line.
